Postgraduate (Subdoctoral) Research Projects

We offer research projects at all degree levels. If you are a University of Auckland student interested in undertaking a postgraduate research project or an undergraduate internship in the Larsen Lab, please contact Chris to discuss projects.

If you are an external student interested in postgraduate study at the University of Auckland, please follow the process for postgraduate applications detailed on the UoA website.

PhD Opportunities

We welcome PhD applications from all eligible candidates. If you are interested in our research and wish to pursue doctoral study in the Larsen lab, please check first that you meet the UoA Doctoral Entry Requirements, look into options for financing your degree (see below), then contact Chris with:

• Proof of Entrance Eligibility (GPE and English language requirements for international students)
• CV
• Academic Transcript
• Statement of Interest / Research Experience (1 page max)
• Contact Details for Two Referees
• Your plan for financing your degree

Degree Financing

There are four main approaches to finance your PhD:

Self-Funded

When self-funding your degree, you pay your tuition fees, student services fees, health and travel insurance (for international students) and living costs. Please note that additional costs may be involved. 

UoA Doctoral Scholarship

This competitive scholarship covers all fees and provides a tax-free stipend to cover living costs. Due to the competitive nature of this scholarship, we only support applicants with a GPE of 8 or higher (7 for Māori and Pacific students).

Country-Specific Scholarships

Many countries offer outgoing PhD scholarships (e.g. Chinese Scholarship Council), which will either partially/fully fund your doctoral studies at the University of Auckland. It is your own responsibility to identify eligible schemes.

Postdoctoral Researchers

We do not currently have specific funding for postdoctoral researchers. However, we will support external funding / fellowship applications from suitable candidates. A non-comprehensive list of fellowships for incoming postdocs can be found below:
