Chris completed his BSc(Hons) – First Class in Chemistry degree at the University of Otago in 2011, under the supervision of Prof. Nigel T. Lucas, and his PhD in 2016, under the joint supervision of Prof. Nigel T. Lucas and Prof. Keith C. Gordon.
In 2016, Chris was awarded a Swiss Government Excellence Postdoctoral Scholarship to join the group of Prof. Oliver S. Wenger, at the University of Basel. After a 3 year postdoctoral stay in Prof. Wenger’s group, Chris joined the Solution Phase Chemistry Group at the Stanford PULSE Institute for Ultrafast Energy Science at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, Stanford University as a postdoctoral scholar, supervised by Prof. Kelly J. Gaffney and Dr Amy A. Cordones-Hahn.
In 2021, Chris was awarded a Swiss National Science Foundation Ambizione Grant to start his independent research group at the University of Geneva, and in 2022, he joined the University of Auckland as a Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry.
